DescriptionThe Big Sister Program matches adult female volunteers with girls between the ages of 5 and 16. Big Sisters spend 2 - 4 hours a week with their Little Sisters and make a minimum commitment of one year. Big Sisters provide friendship, guidance, encouragement and support for their Little Sisters. Activities may include swimming, hiking, baking, arts and crafts, or just hanging out.
 | | "My Big Sister has taught me a lot of things, like how to make green pancakes and peanut butter cookies. She also helped me get over my fears, like staying away from home overnight." | |
EligibilityAll girls between the ages of 5 and 16 who could benefit from having a positive adult female mentor will be considered. To make the relationship work, it is important that the child is interested in having a Big Sister and the parent / guardian be willing to co-operate with the agency and its guidelines.
Please note that the age restriction applies to when a child is initially matched. Once the friendship is established, it can potentially last into the child's teenage years.
