Jessica was selected for the outstanding work that she does as a Big Sister with our agency and for her incredible commitment to young people in the community as a whole. Jessica is an excellent role model for girls and young women. In addition to being a Big Sister, Jessica coaches swimming, is a full-time student, and holds down a part-time job. Little Sister Ilene was proud to come out and cheer for Jessica on the very cold December morning. RBC, a major supporter of Big Brothers and Sisters of Ajax-Pickering, nominated Melanie to carry the torch on behalf of the agency and the City of Pickering. The nomination is in recognition of extraordinary impact that Big Brothers and Sisters' programs have on the youth of our community. "I'm extremely honoured to carry the Olympic Torch. Big Brothers and Sisters is an important part of bringing people together in our community. It seems fitting to be a part of this historic relay, an event that links the whole country together through the symbol of the flame," Melanie said about the nomination.
