Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is a group mentoring program that encourages physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self-image, among girls in grades 7 and 8. Go Girls! is a seven week program that takes place after-school at local schools and community centres.
To be a Go Girls! group mentor you need to have an interest in and the ability to provide girls with guidance, support, and leadership in a group setting.
 | | "Go Girls has been a great experience that has allowed me to work with all different kinds of girls. It has opened my eyes to some of the challenges they face growing up and how positive they are about overcoming them and taking this time to have fun!" | |
How it Works
As a Go Girls! mentor, you and another volunteer will spend two hours a week for seven consecutive weeks leading group discussions about healthy living and emotional, social and cultural issues. Each session is structured around the three Go Girls! themes: active living, balanced eating, and feeling good about oneself.
Application Process
After filling out an inquiry form, there is an application and screening process. Once you are accepted to the program we arrange for your participation in leading a Go Girls! program in a local school or community centre. Training & Support
Our staff provide guidance to all Go Girls! mentors through the orientation and training sessions. Mentors receive all they need to develop healthy and positive relationships with the Littles in their group while also delivering program material.
Benefits
By simply listening, talking, being yourself, and having fun, you will help the girls in your program to improve self-confidence, self-image, leadership and teamwork skills, healthy eating practices and interest in being physically active.
